The annual Farmers' Market is blossoming into a very special event in Eaton Rapids, thanks to a huge cooperative effort between the city, the Chamber of Commerce and the Band Boosters of Eaton Rapids Public Schools.
Running from the end of June through the growing season in the fall, the Eaton Rapids Farmers' Market is prospering in its new location on Hamlin Street, according to Adam Dunn, board chairman of the Farmers' Market Committee. All three community groups have taken responsibility for some aspect of this venture.
The city is working to promote the market with advertising and promotion, including banners designed by area students through the Arts Council. The Chamber of Commerce has worked on the "environment" of the Farmers' Market, including the construction of three new vegetable carts with attached umbrellas. The Band Boosters are arranging volunteers to man the market during its seasonal open hours on Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
Homegrown products, local sweet corn, flowers and plants, soaps and other natural products are just a few of the items offered for sale during the growing season in Eaton Rapids. "We're currently seeking even more vendors to take advantage of this great event," says Dunn. He can be reached at 517-663-2807.
"The Farmer' Market is a great story of cooperation and positively addresses the quality of life we strive for in Eaton Rapids," says Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Don Wyckoff.
