Eaton Rapids Public Schools
Award-winning programs continue to set Eaton Rapids Public Schools apart
from many other local school districts.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
Lockwood Elementary School is home to all of the district’s kindergartners and first graders, providing a nurturing, creative learning atmosphere, with an emphasis on reading education. For parents seeking a Montessori preschool or kindergarten experience, Lockwood Elementary is pleased to present a certified Montessori program.
With 15 acres of natural trails and exploratory fields, Northwestern Elementary is the “school on the hill” for the district’s second and third graders, boasting a new art room and large playground space.
Boys and girls in fourth through sixth grades spend their school days at Greyhound Intermediate. Typically, students have two teachers, plus teachers for fine arts and physical education. A language program and several single-gender classes in core content areas provide new learning experiences.
All of these elementary schools offer physical education, library, computer labs, music and art.
EATON RAPIDS MIDDLE SCHOOL
Eaton Rapids Middle School operates with a six period day for its seventh and eighth grade students, using an open classroom concept for several subjects and programs. A sense of school pride for the “Greyhounds” begins to develop early, with more school-sponsored activities, sports and organizations available for students to become involved.
EATON RAPIDS HIGH SCHOOL
Thanks to unparalleled community support, students in this Class “B” District high school have all the academic, fine arts and athletic advantages of schools in this size range. While the size of the school district is large, it does not approach education with a “one size fits all” program for all students. A personalized approach fits best, and all students benefit, from gifted students to special needs students.
To offer some high school students a different setting, talented, dedicated teachers at Greyhound Central offer a combination of individualized learning, on-line classes and flexible-paced classes. Eaton Rapids Public Schools have earned a reputation of excellence in their fine arts programming, including strong recognition for their chorale and band programs.
Academics set this district apart as well. High school students participate in a three-term trimester schedule, allowing them to take five classes each term, totalling 7.5 credits each year. Students who excel have access to specialized classes at Lansing Community College as juniors and seniors, providing them with college credit as well as significant exposure to higher learning.
“Tying the community together is local school pride in its excellent athletic programs.”
Eaton Rapids Public Schools is proud to sport an impressive indoor/outdoor sports complex, including its football stadium, which has a new entrance, parking lot, team rooms and concession area. New varsity baseball and varsity softball fields attract the best and brightest in their sports, while renovated ball and soccer fields encourage the fun and competition of those events.
Community tennis courts and a new swimming pool are a huge source of town pride. The aquatics facility is used for competitive high school swim, swim club, community classes and student swim classes.
LATCHKEY PROGRAMS
Before and after school care is available in the Greyhound Central building, plus programs for babies, toddlers an preschoolers. These youngsters have access to a gym and outdoor playground for recreation and exercise.
