Community – Local Shopping and Services

Eaton Rapids isn’t a “cookie cutter community.”

With its own collection of retail stores and dining establishments plus a full, vibrant downtown, Eaton Rapids has established its own identity as a leisure-time destination for shopping and eating out. Shopping in Eaton Rapids’ downtown business district is literally like taking “a walk in the park.” Every direction you turn, you will see water, thanks to its “island” location between the Grand River and Spring Brook. That’s why Eaton Rapids is proud of its nickname, “Island City.”

What people will find when doing business in Eaton Rapids, is that most of the businesses are owned by local families - some of them for generations. These local families are dedicated to their community, support the area economy and provide unparalleled customer service because they truly appreciate your business.

For example, Pettit Hardware, the local “Hometown General Store,”
has been in the Pettit family for 120 years. They’re still serving
customers today from their downtown location, and look forward
to many more years of serving their hometown community.

This is just one example on the roster of 300 businesses that call Eaton Rapids “home,” many of which are members of the Eaton Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce. It’s a local connection between commerce and consumer, and it all happens right in our own hometown of Eaton Rapids.

If you’re looking for antiques, gifts, vintage clothing or even an unusual selection of beads to make a bracelet, it’s all right here in Eaton Rapids. Collect trading cards? You won’t have to walk very far to find the best deal in town.

But if you like to venture forth into larger, urban areas for additional entertainment/shopping opportunities, our centralized location makes Eaton Rapids an idyllic place to live. With Lansing just 20 minutes away, regional shopping malls and national chain stores and restaurants are conveniently located “nearby.”
